“I still haven’t lost any weight!!”
I was talking to a client yesterday and she was a
bit frustrated about the fact that she hasn’t
lost any weight in a couple of weeks.
She’s been following our principles, drinking
plenty of water and training 3 times a week at ProjectU
and going to bed at a decent time.
So I asked her how she was feeling in her
clothes and she said, “yes smaller because her
clothes weren’t as tight anymore.”
But I can see she still felt annoyed that she
still didn’t weigh any less.
You might be baffled at this too and even be in
the same place as my client.
As a dieter, weight loss should be the last thing
you focus on because it will never give you a
true measure of shape (body fat) and progress.
Of course, it’s important to celebrate and keep track of
your results so you know all your hard work is
paying off, but by using multiple ways to record your
But theres number factors to consider about weighing
yourself, which I’ll come onto shortly.
However, ‘most’ women step on the scales in the wrong
Imagine yourself about to step on the scales naked
when you awake.
Now remember how the scales controlled your emotions
in the past and dictated how you felt for the
rest of the day.
1. The scales showed you weigh’ed more than you
thought they would.
2. “OMG I weigh more today because I ate loads
yesterday so I wont have breakfast or lunch today, so I can
lose the weight I put on from yesterday.”
3. You get angry and upset
4. You feel like giving up or making bad food choices
that can cause further damage.
This type of weight obsession can cut into your motivation
faster than a chef’s knife and second, it won’t help you get
further results if you keep yo-yo’ing your
food and calories.
So it’s important to start using the scales as an information
“O.K so it’s been 3 weeks, I haven’t lost as many pounds
as I thought, but my clothes feel a lot more loose. What
can I tweak to keep my results consistant?”
See how different that is to just change the
way you think?
If you took your temperature and it was high, you’d
use the info to either take some medication, or
you’d go to the doctor…
So start using the scales in that manner and start
considering our way of tracking your progress.
Here’s the facts to consider my friend;
1. As you get healthier you will “store” more water.
The average adult body has about
50-65% (which is low) water, averaging around 57-60%.
For very fit and active individuals it can be about
70%.
2. The more muscle you have the more your body will
store water along with glycogen in your muscle
3. If you don’t drink enough water your body will
actually retain MORE water.
4. Hormonal fluctuations, bowel movements, food in
your stomach, clothes, Salt intake and medications.
So the conclusion is, as you drop body fat and increase
lean muscle, your body will drop fat and store more
water, which means you won’t neccessarly change on the
scales BUT you will start noticing your shape change,
which is the end goal, right??
Nobody is ever going to come up to you and ask about
your weight if they can’t see any changes but they will
ask you questions when they can see a notiacble
difference in your SHAPE!
That’s why using just weight to track progress
is a fools approach.
Smart dieters use photos, measurements, energy
levels, mood and sleep to track their progress… all of
which we do at ProjectU…
