I have always thought that the devil invented the scales to make women miserable
To top it off we then decided it would be wise to use them on a regular basis to keep track of our progress
How wrong could we have been!!
Back when I used to do 1-1 training at the old studio I used to weigh people during their consultation with me
EVERYTIME I weighed the ladies I always had the same reactions
Oh do I have too
Oh no I’ll break them
They’d stand in front of it for 20 secs and then step on
Some broke into tears which was very awkward…
I felt like hugging them and saying it’ll be ok, but being a total stranger it probably wasn’t the best thing to do on the first formal meeting
After weighing hundreds of people in the end I thought why am I doing this??
What’s the purpose of numbers telling you how much you weigh??
Why am I putting people through this and messing with their heads??
If someone is over weight and you and them can see it, they don’t need to be reminded of it, right?
They’ve made the effort to show up even though it is probably the last thing they wanted to do.
RESPECT to them and anybody else that has done so before
If you did come to see me and you got on the scales, I’m sorry.
I have since learnt from this and now do not practice my old ways anymore!
My thinking behind it is like this…
If you weighed 12-13-14-15-16-17 stone but you still LOOKED in shape, fit, and toned why care about how much you weigh??
Doesn’t make sense…
A number on the scales isn’t going to impress your other half or make you pull on a night out.
The way you LOOK and your CONFIDENCE will do for sure.
But so many people are still too focussed on numbers and NOT the way they look and feel
You get naked in the bathroom at home, ready for your mid week weigh in on the scales, you take a deep breath, tiptoe on and peeeeeeep over your bulging tummy to see no change, a little change or that you have gained.
If you put on weight you wouldn’t eat.
If you stayed the same you would feel ok about it but a little disappointed with the lack progress
If you did lose weight you may go treat yourself to a take away…
You let the scales control your decisions for the rest of the day…
It’s time to change.
Don’t you agree?
—————-My observation not criticism—————-
Slimming clubs have had the same set up ever since they were created.
You join the club, pay a monthly fee for VERY little value in return, you have to buy their products and then turn up to get a once a week weigh-in and pay for that too. :-/
Something smells a bit fishy to me…
You start the plan, you stick to it and then that dreaded weigh in day comes along, you step on and then see that you haven’t lost anything…
They ask you if you’ve followed the plan to the letter, you tell them the truth (which is yes) and then they say ‘you cant have otherwise you would have lost something’
COME ON!!
Really??!!
Have they EVER studied nutrition and looked at the science behind what they prescribe to their dieters?
Ask and find out for yourself.
These day’s if people don’t show progress they will eat the bare minimum to try and get better results.
On the good days of weigh ins it makes people feel like they can do anything
Can you see how it can control your mind and emotions??
Results of weighing can have a huge impact on how the next few days of eating can go, combined with which emotional state it may leave you in
Just because of some stupid numbers…
It causes stress, heart ache, and frustration!
